Welcome to KidneyFoods. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of https://www.kidneyfoods.com (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

KidneyFoods is an educational platform that provides:

• A searchable database of foods with phosphorus, sodium, potassium, and other nutrient values.
• A meal calculator to estimate daily nutrient intake.
• Recipes and dietary guides for people living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
• Optional paid supporter features (unlimited meal saves, printable lists, and similar enhancements).

3. User Accounts

• You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EEA) to create an account.
• You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account.
• You must provide accurate information. We may suspend or terminate accounts that provide false information.
• Notify us immediately at contact@kidneyfoods.com of any unauthorized use.

4. Supporter Subscriptions

• Supporter plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis through Stripe.
• You can cancel at any time from your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
• We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods, except where required by law.
• We may change pricing with at least 30 days' advance notice.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
• Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Service without written permission.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service, servers, or networks.
• Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm another person.
• Post content that is defamatory, obscene, misleading, or infringing.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data.
• Use automated systems (bots, scripts) to create accounts or submit data.

6. User Content

If you submit content to the Service (meals, comments, messages), you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, store, and display that content for the purpose of operating the Service. You retain ownership of your content. You represent that you have the right to submit it and that it does not violate any third party's rights.

7. Intellectual Property

• KidneyFoods, its logo, design, and original content are our intellectual property and protected by copyright and trademark law.
• Nutrient data is sourced from USDA FoodData Central (public domain).
• Food photos are licensed from Pexels, Unsplash, or used with permission.
• You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. Reposting substantial portions elsewhere requires written permission.

8. Third-Party Content & Links

The Service may contain links to third-party sites or display third-party advertisements (including via Google AdSense). We do not endorse and are not responsible for the content, products, or practices of third parties.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

Nutrient values are estimates based on USDA and similar public data. Individual food items can vary significantly. Always verify labels and consult your healthcare provider for clinical decisions.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, KidneyFoods and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or health outcomes, arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD $100.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless KidneyFoods, its officers, employees, and partners from any claim, damage, or expense arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason, with or without notice. You may terminate your account at any time from the dashboard. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (disclaimers, liability, IP) will survive.

13. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We may update these Terms; material changes will be announced on this page. Continued use after changes means you accept the new Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which KidneyFoods is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless applicable consumer-protection law provides otherwise.
